The American company Qualcomm, which created the chipset, presented the latest Chipset ‘Snapdragon 855’ at the Snapdragon Summit in Hawaii in the US on Tuesday. It is the world’s first 5G support chipset and will be used in Samsung and Verizon’s 5G phones first in the world.
Qualcomm said that Snapdragon 855 is the fourth generation chipset and has been awarded a multi-core Qualcomm AI engine which will give three times better AI performance than previous generation chipset. Along with this, it comes with the world’s first computer vision ISP which will help identify the object and face.
The company has introduced the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor in this latest chipset, which has been called ‘Qualcomm 3D Sonic Sensor’. According to the company, with its help, the fingerprint sensor of the phone will be identified from the phone screen.
This chipset is specially designed for 5G connectivity and will be used only in 5G phones. According to the company, with this chipset, users will get 50-100 times more internet speed than the existing 4G network.
Samsung and Verizon has announced the 5G phone, which will be launched in the US market in the first 6 months of 2019. In this summit, Qualcomm said Snapdragon 855 chipsets will be available in Samsung and Verizon’s 5G phones.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 USP Features(Expected)
Qualcomm’s latest flagship processor, Snapdragon 845, is made by the 10nm Low Power Plus (LPP) fabrication process. This is a slightly up-gradated version of the 10nm Low Power Early process, which was used to build the Snapdragon 835 processor. With the new 10nm LPP manufacturing process, you get 10% better performance or 15% less power consumption.
However, given that the X24 modem was made with 7nm nodes, and Samsung has said that in the beginning of 2019 such chipsets will be ready for mass production, so there is no doubt in this Snapdragon 855 should be equipped with both X24 modem and 7nm node process.
There is no official description available about the Snapdragon 855 processor. However, reports so far show that Qualcomm chipset has been developed by Samsung’s foundry business for a long time. But the Snapdragon 855 SoC is quite likely to be manufactured by Taiwan’s TSMMC. We can hope that Snapdragon 855 will be more powerful-efficient than its previous partner and better performer.
